Can the waste materials we shed from our bodies become a part of our technological future?
Can recycling our own carbon reveal the material cost of consumerist technologies?

We Are All Carbon is an evolving sonic intervention, as transient as the shifting organic matter that forms our individual anatomies.

Hair and nails from the artists own body were collected over the course of one year then cremated to form carbon granules. These granules were then used to form a carbon microphone, amplifying the voice through the bodies own biomaterial.

We Are All Carbon explores the significance of connecting our physicality to the intangible nature of recorded sound. Can technology derived from our own organic matter blur the lines between us and machines? Do these materials reveal our individuality or similarities?

We Are All Carbon was showcased at Maverick Projects in London for the MA Art & Science graduate exhibition Virtual Ground, shortlisted for the MullenLowe NOVA Award &  winner of the Digital Art category for the Global Design Graduate Showcase 2021 for Artsthread & Gucci.
